New Vending Machine on Campus Provides Healthy Snacks

Florida State University’s first healthy vending machine is now available on campus! As part of activities to celebrate March as National Nutrition Month, FSU peer health education group SUNN (Students for Understanding Nutrition Now) has worked with local company Quality Snacks and Vending and FSU’s Business Services to provide students with healthy snack choices. All of the snacks the new machine contains, such as trail mix, yogurt drinks, Baked Lays, granola bars, and canned chicken and tuna, adhere to certain criteria - 250 calories or less and less than 30% fat (excluding cheese and nuts due to their nutritional value). The vending machine is located on the north side of the Bellamy Building, near the Oglesby Union.

Student Facilities Use Fee

The Student Facilities Use Fee, effective fall term 2008, will be assessed to main campus students for the purpose of constructing/renovating campus facilities for student services.  The fee was initiated by the Student Government Association (SGA) and approved by the Board of Trustees.  In accordance with SGA’s request, initial revenues will be used to construct a Health and Wellness Center.  The Center, which will operate under the oversight of Student Affairs, will allow Thagard Student Health Center, Leach Center and the College of Nursing to address the serious overcrowding issues.  Future revenues from the fee will be allocated by a campus committee comprised of 50% currently enrolled students and 50% staff.
