In the event of an emergency, when in doubt, always call 9-1-1. The following are procedures to follow when calling 9-1-1. We encourage your department to display these procedures prominently, and to include 9-1-1 protocol in student and staff orientation sessions. You do not need to dial the prefix "9" or any other prefix when dialing 9-1-1.
Stay Calm
Dial 9-1-1
Note: No Prefix is needed when dialing
State your name, your location, your title and the nature of your call
State the type of emergency
Number of victims, condition of victims
- Does the victim have an open airway?
- Are they breathing?
- Is there a pulse?
- Any severe bleeding? Pain?
- Other information?
- Known medications or allergies?
- What help is being given?
DO NOT HANG UP UNTIL THE DISPATCHER DOES
Await for the arrival of a first responder
After a first responder has arrived, contact your personnel or HR representative to report the incident/injury
If the incident occurs after business hours, call 866-786-3351 if it is an injury that involves a student, faculty, or staff member at FSU
It is important to not put yourself in harm's way. Only assist the victim if it is safe to do so.
