Angela Lauer Chong, J.D. was appointed as Associate Vice President for Student Affairs in July, 2018. Ms. Chong leads the health and wellness portfolio of the division of student affairs at Florida State University which includes 300 full time professional staff in the campus recreation, dean of students, university counseling center, and university health services departments.

Ms. Chong’s professional journey includes positions at institutions ranging from small private to large state flagship institutions. She brings a wealth of higher education experience to her work, including student success, diversity and inclusion, student development, legal compliance, crisis management, policy development, threat assessment and care teams, health and wellness administration and programs, grant writing, athletics administration, and institutional governance. Prior to appointment as the Associate Vice President, Ms. Chong served as the chief student affairs officer at The College of New Jersey.

Her scholarly writing, research, and presentation interests include higher education law and policy, constitutional law, campus safety, fraternity and sorority life, student conduct and dispute resolution services, and health and wellness. In addition, Ms. Chong has testified at numerous state legislatures on issues including mental health, suicide prevention, sexual assault on college campuses, and legal compliance in higher education.

Ms. Chong earned a bachelor of science degree in communications from Southeast Missouri State University, a master of science in higher education and student affairs from Indiana University, followed by a JD in Higher Education Law and Policy from Stetson University College of Law.
