Dorsey Spencer Jr. has been with Florida State University since 2014 and began his current role as the Director of Administration in April 2018. Mr. Spencer oversees the day to day operations for the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs as well as the Division of Student Affairs’ marketing and communications, events and programs, and professional development. He also serves as an advisor to the Vice President and spearheads division-wide initiatives. Prior to working in this position, he held several positions in the Oglesby Union.
Mr. Spencer has worked at small private, large state flagship, and international institutions. He has a variety of experience within higher education, including student engagement, student organizations, student development, diversity and inclusion, curriculum development, event planning, leadership development, risk management, and policy development. Prior to joining FSU’s Division of Student Affairs, Mr. Spencer served as the Executive Director for Student Engagement at the American University of Nigeria. He is an active member of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA). His research interests include student success, student engagement, Black men in Higher Education, leadership learning, and Historically Black Colleges and Universities. He has published several book chapters and articles and presented on related topics.
Mr. Spencer earned his bachelor’s degree in Sport and Recreation Management from Temple University, holds a master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and is currently a doctoral candidate in the Higher Education program at Florida State University.
