00:00:36:00 - 00:00:39:13 So MGC is a multicultural greej council here at Florida State. 00:00:39:13 - 00:00:42:23 It has a lot of sororities and fraternities from different 00:00:42:23 - 00:00:47:06 backgrounds, some Hispanic based, some Asian based, or multicultural based. 00:00:47:12 - 00:00:51:07 And we all come together, have our philanthropies and just do service on 00:00:51:07 - 00:00:52:04 campus. 00:00:52:04 - 00:00:56:02 So, Abigail, how many MGC chapters are there at Florida State? 00:00:56:04 - 00:00:59:08 So there's eight chapters in our Multicultural Greek Council. 00:00:59:08 - 00:01:02:00 We have four fraternities and sororities. 00:01:02:00 - 00:01:04:10 What makes MGC special? 00:01:04:10 - 00:01:07:14 MGC is like a little melting pot, I would say. 00:01:07:21 - 00:01:09:22 Our motto is unity through diversity. 00:01:09:22 - 00:01:13:23 And I really think that just encompasses what MGC is. 00:01:14:05 - 00:01:18:01 We all come from different backgrounds, but we come together to do service events 00:01:18:01 - 00:01:18:23 and just hang out. 00:01:18:23 - 00:01:23:05 I think something special about MGC is that we are small council, 00:01:23:05 - 00:01:26:05 but we all get to know each other really, really well. 00:01:26:05 - 00:01:30:10 So it's really easy to make connections and like, find friends, from all over. 00:01:30:14 - 00:01:35:04 So when you joined your sorority, how did you go about doing that? 00:01:35:04 - 00:01:37:18 What's the process look like for those listening? 00:01:37:18 - 00:01:40:13 So coming to FSU, I knew Greek life was a big thing. 00:01:40:13 - 00:01:42:06 My father actually came to the school. 00:01:42:06 - 00:01:45:16 So I was kind of decide if that was something I wanted to get involved in. 00:01:46:00 - 00:01:49:02 And I took the fall to just get adjusted. 00:01:49:05 - 00:01:51:18 And then during that fall semester, I was reached out 00:01:51:18 - 00:01:54:16 to a member of my sorority and she said, kind of an informational. 00:01:54:16 - 00:01:56:23 So I went ahead and I went to the informational. 00:01:56:23 - 00:01:58:05 And I really like the girls. 00:01:58:05 - 00:02:00:10 So I decided to rush in the spring. 00:02:00:10 - 00:02:04:16 So rush looks different for each organization within our council. 00:02:04:17 - 00:02:06:06 It's on an individual basis. 00:02:06:06 - 00:02:10:06 So, the organization really gets to choose when they want to do intake or not. 00:02:10:12 - 00:02:15:09 So my advice to individuals looking to join would be to go to all the events 00:02:15:09 - 00:02:16:10 like MGC events. 00:02:16:10 - 00:02:19:11 We do an MGC week at the beginning of each semester, 00:02:19:12 - 00:02:22:11 so all the organizations will be there so you can meet all of them. 00:02:22:17 - 00:02:24:21 We also are always tabling at Marquette Wednesday. 00:02:24:21 - 00:02:27:22 And you could see organizations stroll or step. 00:02:28:05 - 00:02:32:03 So that's a really great way to see the organizations firsthand on campus. 00:02:32:12 - 00:02:34:11 And I would also say, don't be afraid to reach out 00:02:34:11 - 00:02:36:04 because all of us have Instagram. 00:02:36:04 - 00:02:37:16 Our DMs are open. 00:02:37:16 - 00:02:40:08 Just send a message and someone will get back to you 00:02:40:08 - 00:02:41:14 on how you can join their chapter. 00:02:41:14 - 00:02:45:21 So you mentioned Saluting, Stepping strolling something. 00:02:46:04 - 00:02:48:18 MGC organizations do that. 00:02:48:18 - 00:02:50:17 Those who aren't members can watch and observe. 00:02:50:17 - 00:02:53:20 So what is stepping strolling. 00:02:53:20 - 00:02:56:05 But saluting is a new one I have not heard. 00:02:56:05 - 00:02:57:11 So let's start with saluting. 00:02:57:11 - 00:03:02:03 not all MGC organizations do, do stroll, not all MGC organization step. 00:03:02:09 - 00:03:04:13 Some of them do decide not to do them at all. 00:03:04:13 - 00:03:08:17 Or they can do something called saluting, which you will see, someone that we see 00:03:08:17 - 00:03:11:12 a lot from is our Lambda Theta Phi fraternity incorporated, 00:03:11:12 - 00:03:13:18 where they only do saluting and it's kind of like, 00:03:13:18 - 00:03:16:12 kind of a performance do like a verbal expression, 00:03:16:12 - 00:03:19:12 where they're doing almost what sounds like a poem. 00:03:20:02 - 00:03:23:20 Where it's like an honor to their organization, to their brothers, 00:03:24:03 - 00:03:27:04 who they are and is just showcasing, maybe they're talking 00:03:27:04 - 00:03:30:04 all in synchronization and they're doing synchronized moves, 00:03:30:06 - 00:03:33:07 or they're speaking individually, but it's it's 00:03:33:08 - 00:03:37:00 almost like a powerful piece of who they are and how they honor themselves. 00:03:37:08 - 00:03:38:09 Do that performance. 00:03:38:09 - 00:03:42:02 And is that performance always the same the same words or does it change. 00:03:42:18 - 00:03:45:04 Usually they'll have like a signature one for their chapter 00:03:45:04 - 00:03:48:04 or a signature one for a like, as a national piece. 00:03:48:06 - 00:03:51:00 But they can create new ones for special performances 00:03:51:00 - 00:03:54:04 or for, any special like celebration that they would like to do. 00:03:54:05 - 00:03:56:22 And stepping and strolling. Tell us about that. 00:03:56:22 - 00:04:01:02 stepping, is really just an opportunity for those that are performing 00:04:01:03 - 00:04:05:05 to, do make sounds through, their clapping, 00:04:05:05 - 00:04:08:14 stomping, just making, a music and sound with their bodies. 00:04:08:14 - 00:04:11:06 We see many of that in our NPHC culture. 00:04:11:06 - 00:04:15:05 But be I would like to say that NPHC kind of helped open the doors 00:04:15:05 - 00:04:16:22 for many of our MGC organizations. 00:04:16:22 - 00:04:20:10 many of our MGC has kind of brought that in within their culture 00:04:20:10 - 00:04:24:19 as well as organizations and do step so it's you'll hear that similarity. 00:04:24:19 - 00:04:28:07 But you still have those, pieces that make it special for those MGC 00:04:28:07 - 00:04:31:22 organizations and showing same thing similar to our NPHC organizations. 00:04:32:02 - 00:04:35:02 But it's really just a synchronized, movements in a line 00:04:35:07 - 00:04:36:07 that's used with music. 00:04:36:07 - 00:04:38:09 It might look like dancing, 00:04:38:09 - 00:04:41:09 but, many of our organizations just call it kind of that, stroll. 00:04:41:17 - 00:04:45:00 And you can see this market Wednesdays outside the union, 00:04:45:10 - 00:04:46:12 so folks should check it out. 00:04:46:12 - 00:04:47:01 Absolutely. 00:04:47:01 - 00:04:50:08 So what do MGC chapters look for in members? 00:04:50:12 - 00:04:53:16 I say we look for leaders who want to get involved on campus. 00:04:53:16 - 00:04:57:02 In multiple spaces, we have members who are orientation 00:04:57:02 - 00:05:00:23 leaders, who are in HLC to ASU, past directors. 00:05:00:23 - 00:05:04:18 Also just like honors leaders, all of that. 00:05:04:18 - 00:05:07:18 So just people who are really looking to get involved. 00:05:07:18 - 00:05:09:01 Community service is a big thing. 00:05:09:01 - 00:05:12:21 We all We each individually have our own philanthropies, but 00:05:12:22 - 00:05:13:23 we come together as a whole. 00:05:13:23 - 00:05:16:18 We do a lot of, like, trash cleanups around campus 00:05:16:18 - 00:05:20:03 or how about the Kearney Center, Which is a homeless shelter in Tallahassee. 00:05:20:03 - 00:05:22:20 So someone who's looking to give back to their community. 00:05:22:20 - 00:05:27:09 Now you went through recruitment rush as a second semester freshman. 00:05:27:10 - 00:05:30:07 Is that typical? Were you early in your career? 00:05:30:07 - 00:05:33:07 When do people typically join MGC? 00:05:33:08 - 00:05:34:02 Really? 00:05:34:02 - 00:05:36:14 I feel like people join at all stages. 00:05:36:14 - 00:05:39:14 I've had people who joined when they were a senior. 00:05:39:15 - 00:05:42:11 I also know people who join those freshmen like me. 00:05:42:11 - 00:05:44:17 So I would say it's never too late to join. 00:05:44:17 - 00:05:45:22 Or too early. Really? 00:05:45:22 - 00:05:47:16 I would just get your face out there. 00:05:47:16 - 00:05:50:14 Go to events. Go to the events that the organizations put on. 00:05:50:14 - 00:05:52:18 Because I know throughout the year we all put on, like, 00:05:52:18 - 00:05:54:13 cultural events, educational events. 00:05:54:13 - 00:05:57:02 And they'll definitely notice that you're there. 00:05:57:02 - 00:06:00:17 And as a senior joining, I don't think you're really missing out on too much 00:06:00:21 - 00:06:03:16 because you'll get that last semester or last year. 00:06:03:16 - 00:06:06:16 And, all of our organizations have pretty strong alumni bases 00:06:06:20 - 00:06:08:20 and do like, alumni tailgates and stuff like that. 00:06:08:20 - 00:06:12:20 So there's definitely a community for you, like wherever you go after you join. 00:06:13:02 - 00:06:17:13 So for those watching who are interested, is it very expensive to join 00:06:17:13 - 00:06:20:10 and what do they need to know about the financial commitment? 00:06:20:10 - 00:06:25:18 I would say the financial commitment can it depends on each organization 00:06:25:18 - 00:06:31:00 But I would say we are on like the more non expensive side like organizations do 00:06:31:00 - 00:06:34:19 is I think range from like 100 to 1000 depending on the org. 00:06:35:08 - 00:06:38:10 So you can always like just talk to, your treasurer 00:06:38:10 - 00:06:41:12 or whoever's dealing with the financials, and they'll help you work Okay. 00:06:41:12 - 00:06:41:20 Yeah. 00:06:41:20 - 00:06:45:14 So it's something they'll learn about through recruitment, learn how expensive 00:06:45:14 - 00:06:49:10 it is, and then figure out how they can work it into their budget to join. 00:06:49:18 - 00:06:50:19 Very good. 00:06:50:19 - 00:06:54:13 So what is some advice that you would give our listeners 00:06:54:13 - 00:06:57:13 or watchers who want to join an MGC group? 00:06:57:16 - 00:06:59:11 What should they do first? 00:06:59:11 - 00:07:00:15 What should they talk about? 00:07:00:15 - 00:07:03:13 Not talk about where, not where? 00:07:03:13 - 00:07:05:23 What should they do academically or with their orgs? 00:07:05:23 - 00:07:08:16 What would you give them the best advice you've got? 00:07:08:16 - 00:07:13:02 my best advice to be to research, research all the organizations 00:07:13:02 - 00:07:16:22 within our council because they're all very different, on their own. 00:07:16:22 - 00:07:19:22 And they all have like nationals that are different, 00:07:20:09 - 00:07:23:09 and are part of like different national organizations too. 00:07:23:11 - 00:07:27:09 So I would say to do research, look at the Instagrams, 00:07:27:09 - 00:07:30:14 go to the events, and just don't be afraid to put yourself out there 00:07:30:19 - 00:07:32:13 because I feel like too, when we table out 00:07:32:13 - 00:07:34:03 market, sometimes people don't want to come up. 00:07:34:03 - 00:07:36:16 But don't be afraid to go up there are so nice. 00:07:36:16 - 00:07:39:07 Everyone in the council is nice and they'll love to talk to you. 00:07:39:07 - 00:07:42:23 I think MGC has something special of like, feeling like a family. 00:07:42:23 - 00:07:47:07 And it's, this space that they want others, whether they're affiliated or not 00:07:47:07 - 00:07:51:06 affiliated, feel that family like Aurora and it's. 00:07:51:06 - 00:07:51:21 Yeah. Yeah. 00:07:51:21 - 00:07:52:14 Because you 00:07:52:14 - 00:07:54:08 if you go to a town hall that they have 00:07:54:08 - 00:07:57:02 or even just a simple event, whether it's an individual chapter event 00:07:57:02 - 00:08:01:02 or an MGC event in its entirety, you're going to feel that family. 00:08:01:02 - 00:08:04:14 You're going to feel that sense of like, oh, they they actually like you. 00:08:04:17 - 00:08:06:13 Like they like each. Other is very welcome. 00:08:06:13 - 00:08:07:22 Nothing to be scared of. 00:08:07:22 - 00:08:09:11 Yes. Okay. Very welcome. 00:08:09:11 - 00:08:13:01 So definitely go out to each of the tables, come out to MGC events, 00:08:13:05 - 00:08:14:23 because that will be the opportunity to get to know 00:08:14:23 - 00:08:17:11 a little bit more about MGC, because they are one of the 00:08:17:11 - 00:08:21:22 one of our younger councils here at FSU and most of the nation as well, 00:08:21:23 - 00:08:24:22 because on a national level, many of our organizations are also 00:08:24:22 - 00:08:28:22 the youngest on a, on a national or international headquarter space. 00:08:28:23 - 00:08:31:04 So with that, they're they're still growing. 00:08:31:04 - 00:08:32:23 they're expanding, they're making an impact. 00:08:32:23 - 00:08:33:22 And even though they might be a 00:08:33:22 - 00:08:37:16 small council and maybe not as well known as I believe they should be, 00:08:37:16 - 00:08:39:21 because small as they may be, they're very mighty 00:08:39:21 - 00:08:41:22 and they make one of the biggest impact in the community. 00:08:41:22 - 00:08:44:06 they're individuals are special. They're leaders. 00:08:44:06 - 00:08:46:12 They're taking involvements around all of campus. 00:08:46:12 - 00:08:48:04 they here because they care about the community. 00:08:48:04 - 00:08:51:08 They care about making sure that they're making an impact, creating that change 00:08:51:14 - 00:08:54:14 not just make the community better, but also make themselves 00:08:54:16 - 00:08:56:09 and who they are better in this world. 00:08:56:09 - 00:08:59:19 That's Now, Abigail, you were chapter president, so big job. 00:09:00:05 - 00:09:01:18 I was chapter president. 00:09:01:18 - 00:09:03:16 And I can tell you hardest job 00:09:03:16 - 00:09:06:13 because these are not just the people you're trying to lead, 00:09:06:13 - 00:09:08:19 but they're your friends or your social network. 00:09:08:19 - 00:09:10:21 So tell me, finish this sentence. 00:09:10:21 - 00:09:13:10 MGC has taught me. 00:09:13:10 - 00:09:16:05 I would say how to lead, how to be organized, 00:09:16:05 - 00:09:20:23 and how to separate business from, friendships. 00:09:21:00 - 00:09:21:12 Yeah. 00:09:21:12 - 00:09:24:20 I think that's something really hard to do is setting professionalism 00:09:24:20 - 00:09:27:22 from, like, fun because obviously, like, we're sisters. 00:09:27:22 - 00:09:29:20 I love my sisters, but at the end of the day, 00:09:29:20 - 00:09:32:22 we are an organization, there's work that we have to do. 00:09:33:01 - 00:09:36:08 Whether it be like planning events, doing something service, 00:09:36:08 - 00:09:39:11 having like a certain attendance at another event. 00:09:39:13 - 00:09:41:12 So it can be a lot to manage sometimes. 00:09:41:12 - 00:09:43:14 But it taught me how to manage. 00:09:43:14 - 00:09:47:19 And I really think going forward into, like, professional spaces 00:09:47:19 - 00:09:52:08 and into my career, I'll always have that and know how to lead 00:09:52:08 - 00:09:55:18 and how to be a good listener and understanding, 00:09:55:18 - 00:09:59:01 because I also think within a leader, you have to understand 00:09:59:05 - 00:10:03:00 the people you're working with and help them with what they need. 00:10:03:02 - 00:10:03:16 Yeah. 00:10:03:16 - 00:10:04:09 Yeah I agree. 00:10:04:09 - 00:10:04:16 Great. 00:10:04:16 - 00:10:07:08 What career do you hope to have when you graduate. 00:10:07:08 - 00:10:08:18 I'm going into chemical engineering. 00:10:10:05 - 00:10:10:12 I'm a 00:10:10:12 - 00:10:13:22 chemical engineer with people skills like will make you very marketable. 00:10:13:22 - 00:10:16:09 I can tell you for sure. Yes. 00:10:16:09 - 00:10:17:02 Now tell me. 00:10:17:02 - 00:10:20:06 I know to join an MGC organization. 00:10:20:06 - 00:10:23:20 FSL has at least one requirement. Yes. What? 00:10:23:20 - 00:10:25:12 What is it? So? 00:10:25:12 - 00:10:27:13 So similar to many of our organizations. 00:10:27:13 - 00:10:28:19 There's an orientation component. 00:10:28:19 - 00:10:30:08 you must attend orientation. Okay. 00:10:30:08 - 00:10:32:02 And not just new student orientation. 00:10:32:02 - 00:10:34:21 This is an FSL, MGC orientation. 00:10:34:21 - 00:10:35:20 Absolutely. 00:10:35:20 - 00:10:38:19 We like to say either PNM orientation or an aspirin orientation. 00:10:38:19 - 00:10:42:11 It's for anyone who's interested in joining an organization to just 00:10:42:11 - 00:10:46:07 get some training, some some workshops, learn a little bit more about, who, 00:10:46:07 - 00:10:48:06 maybe who they are and what our community is about, 00:10:48:06 - 00:10:50:04 as well as maybe even the organizations 00:10:50:04 - 00:10:53:08 and what the expectations may look like when you start to join an organization. 00:10:53:21 - 00:10:58:01 And it is mandatory, to join it is mandatory to go to an orientation. 00:10:58:01 - 00:11:00:12 Okay. In the same semester that you're looking to join. 00:11:00:12 - 00:11:03:07 So if you're looking to join in the fall, 00:11:03:07 - 00:11:03:18 you go 00:11:03:18 - 00:11:04:02 go ahead 00:11:04:02 - 00:11:07:03 and go to that orientation in the fall, or you can go to orientation of fall 00:11:07:03 - 00:11:10:19 and be like, oh, They're not doing intake or because of education in the fall. 00:11:10:21 - 00:11:13:13 So you would then have to go in the spring again 00:11:13:13 - 00:11:15:09 and to make sure that you're eligible to join. 00:11:15:09 - 00:11:16:16 So they need to be proactive. 00:11:16:16 - 00:11:18:19 Yes. Show up to that orientation. 00:11:18:19 - 00:11:22:22 Yes. Just in case the chapter you want to join is going to take a class. Yes. 00:11:22:22 - 00:11:27:03 And with that also has our modules work with our prevent zone with our hazing one 00:11:27:03 - 00:11:28:14 and one and FSL. 00:11:28:14 - 00:11:29:12 It's just my just going to 00:11:29:12 - 00:11:33:06 get some basics of hazing, signs and make sure that you're being proactive. 00:11:33:09 - 00:11:36:16 As hazing has no place in our community as well as a know 00:11:36:16 - 00:11:39:16 a little bit more about our, fraternity life here at FSU. 00:11:39:18 - 00:11:42:15 And then we have our Aspen Verification Forum, as always, that all our, 00:11:42:15 - 00:11:45:21 anyone interested in joining, an organization must fill out. 00:11:45:21 - 00:11:49:16 those are three kind of just small points of what our FSL requirements. 00:11:50:00 - 00:11:52:06 you just want to make sure that you're full time, 00:11:52:06 - 00:11:55:04 you complete your requirements just to make sure that you are eligible 00:11:55:04 - 00:11:57:20 to make sure you can move in next steps. Yep. Very good. 00:11:57:20 - 00:12:00:06 Abigail, what is your favorite memory 00:12:00:06 - 00:12:03:20 so far of your Greek life experience at FSU? 00:12:04:03 - 00:12:07:03 I would say this is also like what makes them 00:12:07:07 - 00:12:11:10 special is how we have our new member presentations. 00:12:11:15 - 00:12:14:21 So when you're a new member, you'll be presented, 00:12:15:03 - 00:12:19:07 in front of like everyone from the council comes people from other councils come 00:12:19:10 - 00:12:22:14 and you kind of just see everyone support you and welcome you into the community. 00:12:22:20 - 00:12:24:22 And that's your, like, first event, really. 00:12:26:01 - 00:12:28:19 So I feel like that is such a great memory. 00:12:28:19 - 00:12:31:10 I've gone to so many at this point. 00:12:31:10 - 00:12:34:16 And I love welcoming those who did their presentations 00:12:34:20 - 00:12:37:10 and also seeing my sisters do their presentation. 00:12:37:10 - 00:12:40:12 And from my own, that was really something nice. 00:12:40:12 - 00:12:42:14 And to know that, like, the community was there for me. 00:12:42:14 - 00:12:44:10 But I would also say we have our MG 00:12:44:10 - 00:12:47:04 showcase, every semester, and that's one of my favorites. 00:12:47:04 - 00:12:50:22 Like I still perform in it and everyone's like, you're still performing. 00:12:51:15 - 00:12:53:09 yes, I am. 00:12:53:09 - 00:12:56:20 that's an event that I love, and I love to see everyone else's performances. 00:12:57:01 - 00:13:01:00 And you kind of get to see how each organization, puts in, you know, 00:13:01:00 - 00:13:04:20 like their values, their mottos, like they're symbols 00:13:04:20 - 00:13:06:22 into like one big presentation. 00:13:06:22 - 00:13:09:14 And it's cool to see what everyone comes up with. 00:13:09:14 - 00:13:13:13 Now, I did hear before we started filming that you want a pretty big award 00:13:14:05 - 00:13:16:23 at the Excellence Pursuit of Excellence. 00:13:16:23 - 00:13:20:00 What award did you win and tell us about it. 00:13:20:09 - 00:13:22:12 Well, me and my chapter one of your awards. 00:13:22:12 - 00:13:25:16 I won chapter President of the year and also the John Thrasher, 00:13:25:17 - 00:13:27:07 Leadership and Service Award. 00:13:27:07 - 00:13:28:04 And my chapter did 00:13:28:04 - 00:13:31:23 one chapter of the year this year, which was pretty big deal for us. 00:13:31:23 - 00:13:32:19 We were very proud. 00:13:33:18 - 00:13:35:10 And we won some other 00:13:35:10 - 00:13:38:23 ones like, recruitment and service and operational excellence. 00:13:39:07 - 00:13:40:11 Well, congratulations. 00:13:40:11 - 00:13:41:23 That's a really big deal. 00:13:41:23 - 00:13:43:08 So well done. Well done. 00:13:43:08 - 00:13:46:10 Now it is time for our Ask Amy. 00:13:47:04 - 00:13:50:01 So the questions we have we have three 00:13:50:01 - 00:13:54:08 what types of community service do MGC organizations engage in. 00:13:54:08 - 00:13:56:04 You talked a little bit about that. 00:13:56:04 - 00:13:59:20 So I'm just organizations I think we do a lot of community service. 00:14:00:03 - 00:14:02:22 Every year we have MGC week and we always make sure to have a service 00:14:02:22 - 00:14:04:01 event within that. 00:14:04:01 - 00:14:07:20 So we've done trash cleanups around campus and the stadium. 00:14:07:23 - 00:14:11:08 We've done service events at the Kearney Center making care 00:14:11:08 - 00:14:15:17 packages, hygiene packages, also for the homeless or people in need. 00:14:15:20 - 00:14:20:02 But individually, we also all have our own, like, philanthropies and things. 00:14:20:05 - 00:14:21:23 My sorority is service based one. 00:14:21:23 - 00:14:25:15 Other ones are academic we all do service events really, 00:14:25:15 - 00:14:29:10 so we tend to go out in the community, help at places like Second Harvest, 00:14:29:20 - 00:14:32:19 the Kearney Center, the Oasis Women's shelter. 00:14:32:19 - 00:14:35:03 So you mentioned MGC week. 00:14:35:03 - 00:14:38:14 What are other MGC signature programs and events? 00:14:39:00 - 00:14:41:09 So again, we have MGC week. 00:14:41:09 - 00:14:44:09 It's usually around the second week of each semester. 00:14:44:13 - 00:14:46:14 Within that we have two pretty big events. 00:14:46:14 - 00:14:48:07 We have our MGC event, 00:14:48:07 - 00:14:52:01 which is usually a panel of some sort, all the organizations are there. 00:14:52:01 - 00:14:54:03 So you really get to meet the members 00:14:54:03 - 00:14:56:23 and see how their experience has been and see if you want to join. 00:14:56:23 - 00:15:00:05 So that's a great event for people who are looking to get involved. 00:15:00:13 - 00:15:03:22 And then we also have our showcase which usually happens 00:15:03:22 - 00:15:08:10 in the more auditorium and each organization will perform. 00:15:08:10 - 00:15:09:08 The week has a theme. 00:15:09:08 - 00:15:12:10 So usually the performances are like based on the theme. 00:15:12:12 - 00:15:14:22 And you could see them straw step or salute. 00:15:14:22 - 00:15:18:08 So it's a really cool event and everyone's welcome to go. 00:15:18:18 - 00:15:22:18 All our friends go, members from the other counties come, so it's a good time. 00:15:22:20 - 00:15:25:08 And then you kind of mentioned this. 00:15:25:08 - 00:15:27:22 Folks, talk about MGC is like a family. 00:15:27:22 - 00:15:29:23 What does that mean? 00:15:29:23 - 00:15:33:18 So to me, I think we are smaller organization. 00:15:33:18 - 00:15:36:18 And we were founded like in 2000. 00:15:36:19 - 00:15:37:15 So pretty new. 00:15:37:15 - 00:15:42:02 But we all come together and you really get to know everybody. 00:15:42:12 - 00:15:46:20 I feel like I come from a mixed household, so I'm half Filipino, half Puerto Rican. 00:15:46:20 - 00:15:51:03 And I've gotten to know so many people throughout all the organizations, 00:15:51:03 - 00:15:53:17 and they've helped me grow into my cultures. 00:15:53:17 - 00:15:57:11 Like, for example, my sans, which are the people who initiated 00:15:57:11 - 00:15:58:23 the same year and semester as you, 00:15:58:23 - 00:16:01:23 I feel like you typically get really close to them, 00:16:02:04 - 00:16:04:20 because you all came in this together that, and you remember presentation. 00:16:04:20 - 00:16:07:09 You meet all your sans like you're there all together and you're like, 00:16:07:09 - 00:16:09:22 wow, we're in this all together at the same time. 00:16:09:22 - 00:16:13:12 So I've really gotten to grown with mine, and I got to meet, 00:16:13:13 - 00:16:16:22 some brothers from, like, Lambda Phi Epsilon Alpha. 00:16:17:01 - 00:16:20:12 And, you know, I make lumpia, which is a Filipino dish with them. 00:16:20:12 - 00:16:23:08 So it's like a sense of home away from home. 00:16:23:08 - 00:16:26:08 And I consider them like my brothers, you know, so 00:16:26:12 - 00:16:29:00 they may be in a different organization, but, 00:16:29:00 - 00:16:31:15 you know, they're all my brothers and sisters at the end of the day. 00:16:31:15 - 00:16:36:08 And it's a great way to make a 45,000 person campus feel a lot smaller. 00:16:36:09 - 00:16:37:16 So very good. 00:16:37:16 - 00:16:40:05 Well, thank you both for joining us. 00:16:40:05 - 00:16:41:02 That is it. 00:16:41:02 - 00:16:44:14 For this episode of connect with VP Hecht, 00:16:44:14 - 00:16:47:17 your guide to all things student life at Florida State University. 00:16:48:04 - 00:16:50:19 Be sure to like this podcast. 00:16:50:19 - 00:16:53:17 And don't forget, you can always chat with us and give 00:16:53:17 - 00:16:55:10 us ideas for future episodes.
