Yeah. 00:00:37:22 - 00:00:39:23 So my name is Juan. I'm with CHAW. 00:00:39:23 - 00:00:44:03 I'm one of the coordinators there, and I'm so glad to be part of this podcast. 00:00:44:20 - 00:00:47:13 So our listeners, they're getting ready for spring break. 00:00:47:13 - 00:00:50:23 Yes. You work with drug and alcohol education? 00:00:51:00 - 00:00:51:22 Absolutely. 00:00:51:22 - 00:00:55:03 Which goes hand in hand sometimes with spring break a little bit. 00:00:55:08 - 00:00:58:18 So what students are planning, hopefully they're starting to plan 00:00:58:18 - 00:01:00:13 their spring break. It's in a couple weeks. 00:01:00:13 - 00:01:02:18 What should they start thinking about? 00:01:02:18 - 00:01:05:19 Well, first of all, I love that you said they're planning. 00:01:05:23 - 00:01:10:10 You have to have a plan and you don't go out to spring break without any plan. 00:01:10:11 - 00:01:10:20 Okay. 00:01:10:20 - 00:01:12:11 When we when we're talking about the plan, 00:01:12:11 - 00:01:14:16 we're thinking about like, where are you going to go? 00:01:14:16 - 00:01:16:11 Like, what is your destination? 00:01:16:11 - 00:01:19:11 Are you going to be outside or are you going to be inside? 00:01:19:17 - 00:01:22:08 Who are you going to be with? Are you going to be with friends? 00:01:22:08 - 00:01:25:00 Are you trying to do a solo adventure? 00:01:25:00 - 00:01:27:20 And then what do you have to bring? 00:01:27:20 - 00:01:29:23 Is it a more like a like backpacking? 00:01:29:23 - 00:01:32:21 Is it a more like, I have to get a suitcase. 00:01:32:21 - 00:01:37:02 So when you're anytime you're going to go for a break, a destination, 00:01:37:05 - 00:01:40:03 an adventure, you have to make a plan. Yes. 00:01:40:03 - 00:01:41:21 So that's the basics okay. 00:01:41:21 - 00:01:45:02 Another thing that you can do, Amy, I really want others to know, 00:01:45:10 - 00:01:47:14 but you need to have fun. 00:01:47:14 - 00:01:50:19 You need to have fun, but also stay safe. 00:01:50:20 - 00:01:51:10 All right. 00:01:51:10 - 00:01:52:11 That's the biggest thing. 00:01:52:11 - 00:01:54:01 Have fun, but stay safe. 00:01:54:01 - 00:01:57:00 And don't you think some spring breakers. You know, 00:01:57:00 - 00:01:59:05 when you think of what they're doing, they're in a new environment. 00:01:59:05 - 00:02:00:21 They're staying out late. Yes. 00:02:00:21 - 00:02:02:14 Maybe they're drinking. 00:02:02:14 - 00:02:04:17 Are they a target? And what can they do? 00:02:04:17 - 00:02:07:13 So they're not a target for, you know, theft crime. 00:02:07:13 - 00:02:08:09 Like what are some of the things 00:02:08:09 - 00:02:10:21 our students should be doing when they're out there? Absolutely. 00:02:10:21 - 00:02:13:22 So one of the first thing you have to do is know your surroundings. 00:02:14:04 - 00:02:15:13 If you're like me, I would. 00:02:15:13 - 00:02:17:05 I always look for exits. 00:02:17:05 - 00:02:19:12 I look for things that if I have to go out, 00:02:19:12 - 00:02:22:22 that's where I need to be and then take care of your belongings. 00:02:22:23 - 00:02:25:23 So one of the biggest things I, you know, you're having fun. 00:02:25:23 - 00:02:29:04 You may not remember or you may not pay attention to what you have. 00:02:29:11 - 00:02:32:16 Maybe your purse, keep it close to you, your drink. 00:02:32:17 - 00:02:36:04 Make sure you keep it closed and make sure you're not taking any drinks 00:02:36:04 - 00:02:37:13 from strangers. Right? 00:02:37:13 - 00:02:39:03 That's almost really obvious. 00:02:39:03 - 00:02:41:03 Don't take drinks from strangers. 00:02:41:03 - 00:02:42:15 And also, one of the things is 00:02:42:15 - 00:02:46:09 that you have to just be careful about maybe overconsumption. 00:02:46:16 - 00:02:51:09 If you're over the age of 21 and you're drinking alcohol, it's good to alternate, 00:02:51:09 - 00:02:56:12 maybe alcoholic drink, then nonalcoholic drink and make sure you're eating right. 00:02:56:13 - 00:02:59:02 Eating. Eat the good food. Eat the good food. 00:02:59:02 - 00:03:00:22 What if they're drinking in the sun? 00:03:00:22 - 00:03:03:11 How does the sun play? Like they're on the beach. 00:03:03:11 - 00:03:04:20 Oh, you're having fun. 00:03:04:20 - 00:03:06:17 What should they know? Drinking in the sun. 00:03:06:17 - 00:03:09:16 We are here in Florida and this is Sunshine State. 00:03:09:16 - 00:03:10:09 Everyone. 00:03:10:09 - 00:03:13:22 And spring break all about going out there in the sun, 00:03:13:22 - 00:03:18:04 having fun with Goldie, you know, but don't put your visors on. 00:03:18:04 - 00:03:20:23 But some sunglasses on. Those are very important. 00:03:20:23 - 00:03:24:12 But when you're drinking the sun, one of the biggest things about alcohol 00:03:24:12 - 00:03:27:23 and being exposed to sun is that you may get dehydrated. 00:03:28:06 - 00:03:33:01 You know, it's hot outside, and alcohol works in a way that makes you dehydrated. 00:03:33:04 - 00:03:35:22 So making sure you're always drinking water. 00:03:35:22 - 00:03:38:22 And if not, you can also drink some Powerade. 00:03:39:01 - 00:03:41:22 Gatorade, right? Not Gatorade. Powerade 00:03:42:23 - 00:03:44:01 thing. Yes. 00:03:44:01 - 00:03:47:21 So students, they're going out there drinking 00:03:47:21 - 00:03:51:04 maybe in the sun if they're 21 and and in the States. 00:03:51:04 - 00:03:53:23 Right. 21. What else should they know? 00:03:53:23 - 00:03:57:11 What are the tips to what to eat 00:03:57:11 - 00:04:00:20 to help absorb some of the alcohol and stay balanced. 00:04:00:20 - 00:04:03:14 So you want to eat a lot of carbs and protein. 00:04:03:14 - 00:04:05:12 You want to avoid greasy food. 00:04:05:12 - 00:04:07:17 I know it's so good to have some fried. 00:04:07:17 - 00:04:10:09 Chicken, but isn't that hangover cure as. Well? 00:04:10:09 - 00:04:11:21 Actually, or no reason? 00:04:11:21 - 00:04:16:03 Food is actually not the hangover cure, unlike what most people know, right? 00:04:16:04 - 00:04:19:22 It's really good to eat, but it's bad for the body composition 00:04:20:03 - 00:04:23:16 where it actually affects the alcohol absorption faster. 00:04:23:16 - 00:04:26:00 So you actually absorb alcohol faster 00:04:26:00 - 00:04:28:13 if you're going to be drinking a nonalcoholic drink. 00:04:28:13 - 00:04:29:20 I have a pro tip for you. 00:04:29:20 - 00:04:30:13 Okay. Protect. 00:04:30:13 - 00:04:33:13 Try to avoid carbonated drink. Oh, yeah. 00:04:33:13 - 00:04:34:18 So like rum and Coke. 00:04:34:18 - 00:04:35:20 Like rum and Coke. 00:04:35:20 - 00:04:36:16 And maybe 00:04:36:16 - 00:04:40:19 because what happens is that, Aimee, there's something called effervescence, 00:04:40:19 - 00:04:45:02 which is how bubbly or how carbonated the drink is. 00:04:45:02 - 00:04:45:10 Yeah. 00:04:45:10 - 00:04:48:17 So the way it works in your body is that the flap in your stomach? 00:04:48:21 - 00:04:52:06 It starts flapping and allowing the alcohol to be absorbed faster. 00:04:52:14 - 00:04:54:12 If you have a really bubbly drink. 00:04:54:12 - 00:04:56:19 That's why when you're eating and you're drinking coke, 00:04:56:19 - 00:04:59:13 it just feels like it just flows down really quickly. 00:04:59:13 - 00:05:01:08 And that's the thing with alcohol too. 00:05:01:08 - 00:05:03:23 Now we do Narcan training. Absolutely. 00:05:03:23 - 00:05:08:22 I know your area has been training students, faculty and staff on what to do. 00:05:08:23 - 00:05:11:23 Absolutely. So let's talk about Narcan. 00:05:12:08 - 00:05:13:19 Bringing it on spring break. 00:05:13:19 - 00:05:15:17 Yes. What to do? 00:05:15:17 - 00:05:17:17 Give me the highlights which stands now. 00:05:17:17 - 00:05:21:07 Oh real quick just to let everybody know we have been giving out Narcan 00:05:21:09 - 00:05:22:14 for free to students. 00:05:22:14 - 00:05:24:12 And we've given out over 2000. 00:05:24:12 - 00:05:26:12 If you don't know what Narcan is. Absolutely. 00:05:26:12 - 00:05:31:15 So Narcan is a life saving medication in case there is an opioid overdose 00:05:31:21 - 00:05:34:18 and you're around that overdose, you can save a life. 00:05:34:18 - 00:05:37:21 It's similar to learning how to do CPR, but 00:05:37:21 - 00:05:41:14 Narcan will bring that over those person back to life. 00:05:41:16 - 00:05:45:00 One thing it's very safe, so it's very safe. 00:05:45:00 - 00:05:49:14 There's nothing that will happen that will harm the person if you give them 00:05:49:14 - 00:05:50:10 Narcan. 00:05:50:10 - 00:05:53:10 Number two, it's free. 00:05:53:11 - 00:05:56:05 Number three, it's very accessible. 00:05:56:05 - 00:05:57:19 And so easy to use. 00:05:57:19 - 00:06:00:09 It's almost like a little nasal spray. Yes. 00:06:00:09 - 00:06:02:14 An injection. It's not an injection shot. 00:06:02:14 - 00:06:05:12 No no no no. You're giving a nasal spray. 00:06:05:12 - 00:06:08:12 So you put it up through the nose and then you deploy it. 00:06:08:12 - 00:06:09:21 It's very easy. 00:06:09:21 - 00:06:11:14 If you would like to learn more. 00:06:11:14 - 00:06:15:12 If you guys would like to learn more, we do a weekly Narcan training 00:06:15:17 - 00:06:19:01 over at the University Health Services and we do it. 00:06:19:01 - 00:06:21:17 You get trained, it's about 15 to 20 minutes 00:06:21:17 - 00:06:26:02 and you get free Narcan with you, and you can even take extra for your friend. 00:06:26:12 - 00:06:27:17 Very important. 00:06:27:17 - 00:06:29:22 So you take it with you. 00:06:29:22 - 00:06:33:13 Something might be laced right with fentanyl opioid. 00:06:33:13 - 00:06:36:08 So they'll have it in case they're around someone. 00:06:36:08 - 00:06:38:04 And then what do they do after they deploy? 00:06:38:04 - 00:06:40:17 So do the students or a person that they gave it to. 00:06:40:17 - 00:06:42:21 You need to go to the hospital. What's next? 00:06:42:21 - 00:06:45:14 I want the person to first call 911 okay. 00:06:45:14 - 00:06:46:11 Call 911. 00:06:46:11 - 00:06:49:15 Because the most important thing about Narcan is that it's a bridge. 00:06:49:22 - 00:06:54:22 It's not a cure, but it kicks out the overdose for about 90 minutes. 00:06:55:03 - 00:06:56:23 So hopefully that's enough time 00:06:56:23 - 00:07:00:19 for the EMS to come in there and then continue to help the person. 00:07:00:19 - 00:07:01:23 An overdose. 00:07:01:23 - 00:07:04:18 They may not necessarily have to go with them, 00:07:04:18 - 00:07:08:04 but one thing I want them to do is put the person on their side 00:07:08:14 - 00:07:11:18 right after you gave gives it Narcan, put them on their side 00:07:11:18 - 00:07:14:18 because they may start to vomit and you don't want them 00:07:14:18 - 00:07:18:10 vomiting, you know, back to their throat and, you know, choking in that way. 00:07:18:13 - 00:07:19:06 Not good. 00:07:19:06 - 00:07:21:16 So yeah, I've gone to my spring break. 00:07:21:16 - 00:07:23:17 I'm aware of my surroundings. 00:07:23:17 - 00:07:26:12 I'm drinking, but I'm also drinking my water. 00:07:26:12 - 00:07:28:23 I have my Narcan. Yes. Fortunate I don't need it. 00:07:28:23 - 00:07:32:01 But what if one of my friends drinks too much? 00:07:32:01 - 00:07:35:06 How do I know I should take them to get help? 00:07:35:06 - 00:07:37:02 Or they can just sleep it off? Yeah. 00:07:37:02 - 00:07:41:01 So I recommend knowing the signs of alcohol poisoning. 00:07:41:01 - 00:07:41:20 Okay. What do. 00:07:41:20 - 00:07:44:09 You know? The signs of alcohol poisoning? I'm going to tell you. 00:07:44:09 - 00:07:48:07 So one of the things is that when they start becoming really slurred 00:07:48:07 - 00:07:52:01 speech, when they start having a little bit of mental confusion, 00:07:52:01 - 00:07:56:06 not just not just being a little loose, but actually getting confused, okay? 00:07:56:07 - 00:07:58:08 They don't know the time. They don't know the place. 00:07:58:08 - 00:08:00:05 They don't even know people's names. Yeah. 00:08:00:05 - 00:08:03:03 When they start to vomit because of alcohol, 00:08:03:03 - 00:08:06:04 when you start drinking enough to vomit, that's a sign 00:08:06:04 - 00:08:10:01 that alcohol poisoning your back or your blood alcohol content 00:08:10:07 - 00:08:14:04 have increased so much that your body's tried to like, reduce it. 00:08:14:06 - 00:08:19:07 I always recommend to people, if you have this experience, you have this situation. 00:08:19:07 - 00:08:21:00 Yeah, somebody is unresponsive. 00:08:21:00 - 00:08:23:07 Maybe they pass out, maybe they vomit. 00:08:23:07 - 00:08:24:19 They're cold to the touch. 00:08:24:19 - 00:08:28:08 They're starting to feel cold, maybe a little bluish on their fingernails 00:08:28:11 - 00:08:32:21 or around their lips is that do not let them sleep it off, okay. 00:08:32:22 - 00:08:34:21 It's very important not to sleep. 00:08:34:21 - 00:08:36:18 Let them sleep it off. 00:08:36:18 - 00:08:40:03 And also don't tell them to go take a shower 00:08:40:09 - 00:08:42:12 because they may slip and fall. 00:08:42:12 - 00:08:45:00 They may have more harm to them. Yeah, yeah. 00:08:45:00 - 00:08:47:04 The biggest thing is try to keep them awake. 00:08:47:04 - 00:08:50:04 Try to give them some water to hydrate themselves. 00:08:50:06 - 00:08:51:22 Don't give them a lot of food 00:08:51:22 - 00:08:54:23 because they may start vomiting or even choking on the food. 00:08:54:23 - 00:08:58:19 Biggest thing Amy, just like with Narcan, call 911 00:08:59:03 - 00:09:02:13 very, very important because we want people to be safe. 00:09:02:14 - 00:09:04:10 Yeah, we want people to, 00:09:05:16 - 00:09:07:22 to have the professional help in case they need it. 00:09:07:22 - 00:09:08:06 Yeah. 00:09:08:06 - 00:09:12:06 And they don't need to worry about it because we have an amnesty program here 00:09:12:13 - 00:09:15:12 and that they could, as long as they call 911. Yep. 00:09:15:12 - 00:09:17:04 They stay with the person. Yep. 00:09:17:04 - 00:09:20:03 And they cooperate with EMS or PD. 00:09:20:03 - 00:09:25:03 They will they may be able to access this amnesty, which is amazing. 00:09:25:03 - 00:09:26:07 Yep. Yes. 00:09:26:07 - 00:09:28:20 Charges. No. Conduct charges which is great. 00:09:28:20 - 00:09:32:04 So I often hear, especially for first year students 00:09:32:04 - 00:09:35:04 who might not have been exposed to alcohol. 00:09:36:00 - 00:09:42:08 Surprised at how much they've drank in and and the reaction. 00:09:42:08 - 00:09:45:01 So the average weight of a female. 00:09:45:01 - 00:09:46:12 Average weight of a male. 00:09:46:12 - 00:09:49:16 What is a safe amount to drink? 00:09:50:03 - 00:09:52:19 And I also know the measurements are always interesting. 00:09:52:19 - 00:09:55:04 What is a real shot? What is a real pour. 00:09:55:04 - 00:09:58:16 So talk to me about that for our students that want to drink. 00:09:58:23 - 00:10:01:02 Yeah but they don't know their limit. Yeah. 00:10:01:02 - 00:10:04:23 And they're not really understanding that 12 drinks a night for. 00:10:04:23 - 00:10:05:05 Yeah. 00:10:05:05 - 00:10:07:23 For your average size female you are a lot. 00:10:07:23 - 00:10:09:08 Yes it is a lot. 00:10:09:08 - 00:10:09:23 So yeah. 00:10:09:23 - 00:10:12:14 So what what should students know about. 00:10:12:14 - 00:10:16:04 Let's normalize what they should and how much they should be drinking. 00:10:16:04 - 00:10:16:19 Absolutely. 00:10:16:19 - 00:10:21:08 So one of the biggest things I tell people is that, the way you absorb alcohol 00:10:21:08 - 00:10:25:13 differences between male and female bodies and your weight is a biggest, 00:10:25:20 - 00:10:30:09 if you're kind of like, on the lighter side, less alcohol is better. 00:10:30:09 - 00:10:30:14 Yeah. 00:10:30:14 - 00:10:33:21 And if you're on the heavier side, you can take it a little bit more. 00:10:34:00 - 00:10:39:08 But if I'm talking about how much it's really going to vary on each person okay. 00:10:39:08 - 00:10:41:11 So it's about weight. It's about weight. And. 00:10:41:11 - 00:10:45:10 Muscle, muscle mass fat, whether you ate, whether you drank 00:10:45:17 - 00:10:48:12 and how fast that you're drinking in between. 00:10:48:12 - 00:10:53:05 If you take maybe three shots all at once, that's going to spike your back 00:10:53:05 - 00:10:54:05 really quickly. Yeah. 00:10:54:05 - 00:10:58:06 This is why I like to tell people, well, space and pace. 00:10:58:14 - 00:11:02:13 Space and pace, those are the two things when it comes to alcohol. 00:11:02:18 - 00:11:06:06 I don't recommend anybody drinking any more than five 00:11:06:08 - 00:11:09:14 standard alcoholic drinks within two hours. 00:11:09:15 - 00:11:09:23 Okay. 00:11:09:23 - 00:11:14:16 If you drink more than five or even five within two hours, that's classified. 00:11:14:16 - 00:11:16:22 That's what we call binge drinking. 00:11:16:22 - 00:11:20:13 And a lot of problems are associated with binge drinking, y'all. 00:11:20:13 - 00:11:22:05 So five drinks. 00:11:22:05 - 00:11:24:10 So it could be five shots. 00:11:24:10 - 00:11:27:18 That's five cans of beer, cans. Of beer. 00:11:27:19 - 00:11:29:04 Glasses of wine, whatever. 00:11:29:04 - 00:11:30:01 Okay. Yes. 00:11:30:01 - 00:11:32:20 And if they don't, don't aim for that. 00:11:32:20 - 00:11:35:07 That's not that's that's that's the upper limit. 00:11:35:07 - 00:11:36:06 They're the upper limit. 00:11:36:06 - 00:11:38:05 You know, stay away. Less is more. 00:11:38:05 - 00:11:39:05 Less is more. 00:11:39:05 - 00:11:41:17 And you know a little thing about that. 00:11:41:17 - 00:11:42:08 Less is more. 00:11:42:08 - 00:11:47:16 It's very important, Amy, because the way alcohol affects us, it's actually 00:11:47:16 - 00:11:53:08 less is better because it's spikes within about 2 to 3 alcoholic drinks. 00:11:53:08 - 00:11:56:08 That feeling of like you're loose, you're having fun. 00:11:56:08 - 00:11:59:04 That's what most people want when they drink, right? 00:11:59:04 - 00:12:00:04 They want to have fun. 00:12:00:04 - 00:12:02:22 They want to be a little bit loose, a little more relaxed. 00:12:02:22 - 00:12:03:20 They'll be more relaxed. 00:12:03:20 - 00:12:10:13 Yeah, that actually spikes over about .03 to .05 back. 00:12:10:20 - 00:12:12:14 And most people can get there 00:12:12:14 - 00:12:16:12 within 1 to 2, maybe a little bit of three if you're on the heavier side. 00:12:16:12 - 00:12:17:11 And then. What happened. 00:12:17:11 - 00:12:19:09 What a two hour window with one hour. 00:12:19:09 - 00:12:21:15 Within that 1 to 2 hour window. 00:12:21:15 - 00:12:24:21 What one, two three drinks and that hits it's spike. 00:12:25:04 - 00:12:30:05 And what happens is if you drink more, you actually start getting drunk 00:12:30:11 - 00:12:35:06 in the sense that you are now expert in seeing the negative effects of alcohol. 00:12:35:06 - 00:12:36:14 And then, you know, what's funny 00:12:36:14 - 00:12:39:18 is that people think, oh, I don't feel as good anymore. 00:12:40:09 - 00:12:43:17 Maybe I need to drink more, but it's actually the opposite. 00:12:44:03 - 00:12:48:07 If you want to feel good, you need to slow down and get right back up. 00:12:48:12 - 00:12:51:04 2.032.05 the balance. 00:12:51:04 - 00:12:52:15 So how do they get back? Water. 00:12:52:15 - 00:12:56:20 Water, food and not taking in more alcohol okay. 00:12:56:20 - 00:12:58:21 Yeah that's the that's a good way. Yeah. 00:12:58:21 - 00:13:03:04 So I'm sure we have some students working out getting ready. Yes. 00:13:03:04 - 00:13:04:08 What are you seeing. 00:13:04:08 - 00:13:06:13 What's the healthiest way to get ready. 00:13:06:13 - 00:13:09:01 So you look good on spring break. 00:13:09:01 - 00:13:10:12 What do you see in of our students? 00:13:10:12 - 00:13:11:14 Oh, absolutely. 00:13:11:14 - 00:13:15:14 Well, the biggest thing that anybody can do is going for walks. 00:13:15:14 - 00:13:21:08 Oh, getting 15 minutes of walking, maybe a little bit of a brisk walk every day. 00:13:21:14 - 00:13:23:23 Just getting your activity levels up. Yeah. 00:13:23:23 - 00:13:27:07 It's a great way to stay in shape for your heart 00:13:27:07 - 00:13:31:05 health, maybe for even your endurance and all those things. 00:13:31:05 - 00:13:35:06 So that's the first step is at least get out there, get the sunshine, 00:13:35:14 - 00:13:38:16 the vitamin D, the walking, get a little bit of sweat out. 00:13:38:16 - 00:13:40:22 You don't have to walk really slow. 00:13:40:22 - 00:13:44:16 You can slowly walk, smell the flowers, but you can briskly walk and 00:13:44:19 - 00:13:47:00 get that pumping. If you want to work out. 00:13:47:00 - 00:13:50:23 There's a lot of body weight exercises that you can do, whether it's doing 00:13:50:23 - 00:13:56:01 some pushups, maybe some squats, maybe some lunges, a lot of things like that. 00:13:56:02 - 00:13:59:04 A great way to get started on your fitness journey. 00:13:59:12 - 00:14:04:05 We do have two great places here in FSU called the Leach. 00:14:04:05 - 00:14:07:02 Yeah, also the Fitness and Movement clinic, 00:14:07:02 - 00:14:09:17 which is located in the University Health Center. 00:14:09:17 - 00:14:10:21 They have classes. 00:14:10:21 - 00:14:12:06 If you want to learn more 00:14:12:06 - 00:14:16:06 about actually working out, you can be with the personal trainer 00:14:16:12 - 00:14:18:20 or you can be out there and meet some friends 00:14:18:20 - 00:14:21:07 who are on the same fitness journey as you. 00:14:21:07 - 00:14:23:05 Before you came to Florida, you were in Texas? 00:14:23:05 - 00:14:24:23 Absolutely, yes. 00:14:24:23 - 00:14:27:09 Hadn't have you had spring breaks? 00:14:27:09 - 00:14:31:00 Yes. Actually. 00:15:18:12 - 00:15:21:09 I went to Florida every year. Okay. 00:15:21:09 - 00:15:22:13 So that was your spring. 00:15:22:13 - 00:15:24:13 Break, my spring break destination. 00:15:24:13 - 00:15:27:22 And then Amy, I said, I'm moving, I love it, that's why I'm here. 00:15:27:22 - 00:15:28:08 Who knows? 00:15:28:08 - 00:15:31:11 Wherever their spring break, they might decide to move exactly. 00:15:31:11 - 00:15:34:03 They may love it so much that they're like, I'm just going to move. 00:15:34:03 - 00:15:36:06 That's my that's that's my destination. 00:15:36:06 - 00:15:39:05 So you had no spring break horror stories. 00:15:39:06 - 00:15:40:12 Well or you. 00:15:40:12 - 00:15:44:16 Did. I did, And that's what led you to your career. 00:15:45:01 - 00:15:47:00 Yes. So unfortunately, 00:15:47:23 - 00:15:49:02 I did have some. 00:15:49:02 - 00:15:52:09 And I'm I'm going to redact some names, but I do know a person. 00:15:53:03 - 00:15:55:03 I was there, we were out there in the beach, 00:15:55:03 - 00:15:58:06 and the person was celebrating their birthday. 00:15:58:12 - 00:16:00:21 And I didn't know all that. 00:16:00:21 - 00:16:01:21 I know not right. 00:16:01:21 - 00:16:05:15 Unfortunately, I didn't know all that I know, and I wish I could go back in time. 00:16:07:07 - 00:16:09:13 But what had happened was it's late at night. 00:16:09:13 - 00:16:11:19 I don't recommend going to the beach late that night. 00:16:11:19 - 00:16:12:12 Another good tip. 00:16:12:12 - 00:16:15:10 Another good tip. Don't go to the beach late at night. 00:16:15:10 - 00:16:18:10 And another thing is that this person, 00:16:18:15 - 00:16:21:20 drank two handles of liquor within two hours. 00:16:22:00 - 00:16:24:17 Okay. Not your five that you just recommended. 00:16:24:17 - 00:16:26:00 No, not at all. 00:16:26:00 - 00:16:28:23 And, so playing the water, 00:16:28:23 - 00:16:31:18 going this and that and eventually passed out on the beach, 00:16:32:17 - 00:16:35:12 and thankfully there was somebody who called 911 00:16:35:12 - 00:16:39:15 and they were able to rush to the hospital, which saved his life. 00:16:39:15 - 00:16:40:04 Yeah. 00:16:40:04 - 00:16:41:09 And could have drowned. 00:16:41:09 - 00:16:42:23 Could have drowned, could have. 00:16:42:23 - 00:16:44:20 Could have had. So many things happen. Yeah. 00:16:44:20 - 00:16:47:16 So this is why it's so important to know these things. 00:16:47:16 - 00:16:47:23 Yeah. 00:16:47:23 - 00:16:51:21 And also to know 911 call 911 if something like this happens. 00:16:52:03 - 00:16:54:15 Because that's still my friend. 00:16:54:15 - 00:16:55:03 He's still. 00:16:55:03 - 00:16:56:02 Alive here. 00:16:56:02 - 00:16:59:02 I'm still here I love him and it's great. 00:16:59:05 - 00:17:02:04 But yeah I've also had a lot of really fun stuff. 00:17:02:04 - 00:17:04:15 Fun, fun, fun spring breaks. 00:17:04:15 - 00:17:06:08 Because I now know what to do. 00:17:06:08 - 00:17:09:02 You know what to do. What year are you? Yeah. 00:17:52:16 - 00:17:54:05 So my name is Claire Dold. 00:17:54:05 - 00:17:56:07 I'm a sophomore here at BCU. 00:17:56:07 - 00:17:59:23 I'm currently studying public relations, and I'm also a marketing assistant 00:17:59:23 - 00:18:01:21 at University Health Services. 00:18:01:21 - 00:18:06:03 And so as a sophomore, you've already had one FSU spring break under your belt. 00:18:06:11 - 00:18:07:12 Okay. 00:18:07:12 - 00:18:11:03 So tell us, what are you doing to get ready for spring break? 00:18:11:03 - 00:18:13:06 Do you know where you're going? Have you thought about it? 00:18:13:06 - 00:18:14:06 So I. Actually do. 00:18:14:06 - 00:18:17:05 And that's a tip that I would give to students is please plan ahead. 00:18:17:05 - 00:18:19:04 It's just so difficult when you don't plan ahead 00:18:19:04 - 00:18:21:17 because everyone here is planning to leave for spring break. 00:18:21:17 - 00:18:23:03 I mean, it's totally okay if you stay here. 00:18:23:03 - 00:18:26:03 It probably better if you stay here at least. 00:18:26:07 - 00:18:28:12 But no. Definitely more financially affordable. 00:18:28:12 - 00:18:29:08 If you say two. 00:18:29:08 - 00:18:31:21 Percent, I'm actually doing an affordable spring break. 00:18:31:21 - 00:18:32:22 This year, I love it. 00:18:32:22 - 00:18:35:22 I'm going to Pensacola, so not far at all. 00:18:35:22 - 00:18:37:12 Two hours. What do we do? Actually. 00:20:09:07 - 00:20:11:11 So I only have classes this year. 00:20:11:11 - 00:20:12:22 Tuesday and Thursday. 00:20:12:22 - 00:20:15:14 So I've been going to the gym other than those days, 00:20:15:14 - 00:20:17:00 and I honestly feels really nice. 00:20:17:00 - 00:20:19:06 I honestly feel like it's like a self-care good. 00:20:19:06 - 00:20:20:05 It is. 00:20:20:05 - 00:20:20:13 Good for your. 00:20:20:13 - 00:20:22:03 Mental health. Okay? 00:21:37:03 - 00:21:38:07 And I love it so much. 00:21:38:07 - 00:21:41:19 I'm trying to also like not going to diet, like, not try to like lose weight, 00:21:41:19 - 00:21:45:11 but like just be healthier, eat more whole foods, things like that. 00:21:45:15 - 00:21:47:05 Which I think also like is. 00:21:47:05 - 00:21:49:02 That easy to do here? 00:21:49:02 - 00:21:50:22 I think so I think it's a little bit harder 00:21:50:22 - 00:21:53:22 if you're in a dorm, but there's ways around it, obviously. 00:21:53:22 - 00:21:56:00 Like if you have like an air fryer, things like that, you. 00:21:56:00 - 00:21:57:18 Definitely can cook in the halls. 00:21:57:18 - 00:21:59:02 Yeah, okay. 00:21:59:02 - 00:21:59:20 So you can get it in. 00:21:59:20 - 00:22:02:00 You just have to be more cognizant. Yes. 00:22:02:00 - 00:22:03:07 But it's definitely doable. 00:22:03:07 - 00:22:05:06 And I've kind of like gone to the grocery store. 00:22:05:06 - 00:22:08:03 I used to think like dieting was like the hardest thing ever. 00:22:08:03 - 00:22:10:02 Like I just want to say like, I'm not dieting to lose weight. 00:22:10:02 - 00:22:11:17 I'm trying to be healthier. 00:22:11:17 - 00:22:13:05 But honestly, it's my dieting. 00:22:13:05 - 00:22:17:03 You're saying, like just being conscious of, like, healthy foods and thoughtful. 00:22:17:03 - 00:22:19:13 Not eating Taco Bell at 12 a.m. 00:22:19:13 - 00:22:20:16 anymore. Like. 00:22:20:16 - 00:22:22:22 I'm probably a good rule of thumb. Yeah. 00:22:22:22 - 00:22:25:04 So how do you feel about cooking? 00:22:25:04 - 00:22:27:02 Like, I hear from students, they want to cook, 00:22:27:02 - 00:22:29:10 but then when they get to cook, they're like, oh, this is a lot of. 00:22:29:10 - 00:22:30:13 It is it is definitely hard. 00:22:30:13 - 00:22:33:14 But I would say like outside outside resources. 00:22:33:14 - 00:22:36:13 Like, honestly, just like Google helps a lot. 00:22:37:09 - 00:22:38:18 I don't know, like maybe TikTok. 00:22:38:18 - 00:22:40:00 Really, honestly, it's not that hard. 00:22:40:00 - 00:22:42:00 I think if you could find like a great person on YouTube, 00:22:42:00 - 00:22:43:23 something like that, and talk about it. 00:22:43:23 - 00:22:46:23 I know University Health Services has a nutrition services. 00:22:47:01 - 00:22:48:10 They do. Why? 00:26:46:08 - 00:26:50:00 And that's, you know, I don't think a lot of people understand, like the heat 00:26:50:01 - 00:26:54:11 not eating dehydration, like you said, you weren't even drinking 00:26:54:11 - 00:26:57:12 and you had what some would think is like, oh, she must have been like 00:26:57:12 - 00:26:59:10 drinking all day in the sun. 00:26:59:10 - 00:27:03:06 So yeah, really being aware because thank goodness you weren't alone 00:27:03:13 - 00:27:04:04 when that happened. 00:27:04:04 - 00:27:04:15 So saying 00:27:04:15 - 00:27:05:20 like when you're on spring break, 00:27:05:20 - 00:27:08:02 like you need to surround yourself by people that you know, 00:27:08:02 - 00:27:10:12 that will take care of you and watch over you because like, 00:27:10:12 - 00:27:11:11 I don't have, I was alone. 00:27:11:11 - 00:27:13:10 Yeah, I could have maybe gotten snatched up. 00:27:13:10 - 00:27:15:19 You never know. Like you never know what goes on. 00:27:15:19 - 00:27:20:00 Especially like in Fort Lauderdale, areas like that Mexico, you know, you're. 00:27:20:00 - 00:27:21:07 Traveling outside the country. 00:27:21:07 - 00:27:22:21 You should really be aware of your surroundings. 00:27:22:21 - 00:27:24:18 There's somebody could have just stolen your bag. 00:27:24:18 - 00:27:26:06 Yeah, while you were unconscious. 00:27:26:06 - 00:27:28:07 And then you're missing money. Transport. 00:27:28:07 - 00:27:29:15 Honestly, could have happened. Yeah. 00:27:29:15 - 00:27:31:10 So I think definitely be around a good group. 00:27:31:10 - 00:27:34:19 A good group of people, like whenever you're out there because you never know. 00:27:34:19 - 00:27:37:21 So what would be money is no object. 00:27:38:11 - 00:27:42:05 Best spring break you could dream up like ideal spring break. 00:27:42:19 - 00:27:44:22 Oh my God, I wish I know. Lotto. 00:27:44:22 - 00:27:45:21 I won the lotto. 00:27:45:21 - 00:27:48:20 Okay, I thought, oh, you're going in spring break. Where are you going? 00:27:48:20 - 00:27:52:18 I think this was a kind of basic, but, like, it's like I want to go there for. 00:27:52:18 - 00:27:53:18 I want to go there for spring of two. 00:27:53:18 - 00:27:54:18 So that is Cabo. 00:27:54:18 - 00:27:55:02 Okay? 00:27:55:02 - 00:27:56:11 I want to go there so bad. 00:27:56:11 - 00:27:58:06 Like in a beach girl, aren't you? 00:27:58:06 - 00:27:59:01 You love the beach. 00:27:59:01 - 00:28:01:14 I like, want to pretend that I'm like a surfer girl and I'm not. 00:28:01:14 - 00:28:03:06 Kind of look like a surfer girl in this, though. 00:28:03:06 - 00:28:04:21 You get panic. 00:28:04:21 - 00:28:07:06 I know, like, I want. I feel like whatever. 00:28:07:06 - 00:28:09:05 Since I was little, I was like, I'm going to be a surfer girl and I'm older. 00:28:09:05 - 00:28:11:06 My dad was like, you don't live near a beach. 00:28:11:06 - 00:28:12:01 And I'm like, true. 00:28:12:01 - 00:28:14:03 We can fix that.
